St Charles of Borromeo Church:
Completed in 1969. Designed by Gillespie, Kidd & Coia Architects, a firm who are amongst Scotland’s most revered 20th century architectural practices. The church was designed when Metzstein and MacMillan's creativity was on the ascendency at the practice. The exterior of the building is brick and an exposed concrete frame with clear modernist and machinist influences from the two greats of Frank Lloyd Wright and Le Corbusier. Similarities can be drawn to Auguste Perret's 1921-22 Notre Dame du Raincy near Paris, France. This building by Perret is an icon of modernism utilising reinforced concrete. (To be added shortly interior photographs including the vaulted concrete with its folded appearance.)
